FAQs: Timeline Analytics
Frequently asked questions
How many investments can I compare at once?
Up to six. Pick them under "Search & Select investments", then click "Analyse". The counter next to "Selected investments" shows how many you've chosen, and "Clear all" starts again.
What can I compare?
Six types, each with its own button under "Search & Select investments":
-
"Internal Model": Timeline's model portfolios.
-
"Custom": portfolios you've built in the Portfolio Centre.
-
"External Model": other providers' model portfolios.
-
"Multi-Asset Funds": search by fund name or ISIN.
-
"Indices": market indices.
-
"Benchmarks": inflation benchmarks.
Why does a portfolio show missing data?
If Analytics can't load the data for a selected portfolio, it shows a message naming it, for example "[Portfolio name] has missing portfolio data". For a custom portfolio, open it in the Portfolio Centre and save it again: that asks Timeline to fetch its data afresh. For multi-asset funds and other investments you'll see "Some of the selected multi-asset funds data is missing." or "Some of the selected investments data is missing." If the message stays, email support@timeline.co with the portfolio or fund name and its ISIN.
Why can't I add a fund to a custom portfolio?
When Timeline has no data for a fund, it tells you: "Unfortunately data is not available for" followed by the ISIN, and that fund isn't added. This mostly affects some insured pension funds and some funds only available through a single provider. Email support@timeline.co with the ISIN and we'll check whether it can be added.
Can I save the charts I use most?
Yes. Click "Manage templates", then "Add dashboard template". Choose the charts under "Select charts to include", drag them into order in the preview, and click "Save template". Pick it next time from the "Dashboard template" list. Only the person who created a template can edit or delete it.
Are returns shown before or after fees?
To show returns after your adviser and platform fees, set them in Settings > Real Return Customisation. For Timeline's models, Timeline's DFM fee is set there as well and taken off their returns. See What a model costs: fee plus OCF.
Can I show cumulative or annualised performance?
Yes. The performance chart switches between "Cumulative" and "Annualised". Use the date selector to set the period.
Can I share the analysis with my client?
Export the dashboard as a PDF. It follows the layout of the dashboard on screen. Past performance is not a reliable guide to future returns, so explain that alongside any comparison you share.
How do I build my own portfolio to compare?
Click "Custom portfolios" under "Search & Select investments". See Creating Custom Portfolios in Timeline: Step-by-Step Guide.
