FAQs: Model Portfolios
Frequently asked questions
What risk ratings do Timeline's models have?
Go to "Models", then the "Risk" tab. The "Risk Profiling Tool" table shows each model's Timeline Risk Rating and, where they're available, its Defaqto, Oxford Risk and Dynamic Planner risk ratings. The table isn't available on trial accounts. If the rating you need isn't shown, email support@timeline.co.
How often are the models rebalanced?
Not on a fixed date. Timeline buys and sells funds to bring a model back to its target mix whenever equities drift more than 10 percentage points above or below the target equity weighting.
What's the difference between "Timeline Tracker" and "Timeline Tracker (2% Cash)"?
The "(2% Cash)" version holds 2% of the model in cash, so its growth assets top out at 98%. Otherwise the approach is the same. Some platforms offer one version, some both, so check the name when you select the model on the platform.
What does a model cost?
Timeline's DFM fee plus the weighted OCF of the funds inside, with transaction costs shown separately. See What a model costs: fee plus OCF.
Which platforms can I use?
See Find and select Timeline models on your platform for the list and how to get access.
I can see some models in a range on my platform, but not the one I need.
Access is set up for each firm on each platform, so a single model can occasionally be missing. Email support@timeline.co with your firm's name, FCA number, the platform and the exact model, for example "Timeline Tracker 30", and we'll add it.
Where do I find fund factsheets and KIIDs?
Go to "Models", then the "Funds" tab. Each fund has "Factsheet" and "KIID" downloads, and "Download All" gives you every factsheet or KIID in the range at once.
Where's the performance history, and is it real?
Go to "Models", then "Performance" for a table and a graph you can export to Excel. Where a model's history goes back before it was available to invest in, the earlier part is simulated using the same method, and the page says so with a dashed line on the graph. Past performance is not a reliable guide to future returns.
Is performance shown before or after fees?
Performance is after the underlying funds' charges. Turn on "Net of DFM Fees" on the "Performance" tab to also take off Timeline's DFM fee. Platform and advice fees are not deducted there.
How do I compare a Timeline model with my client's current portfolio?
Use Analytics. You can compare up to six investments side by side, including Timeline's models, your own custom portfolios, other providers' models, multi-asset funds, indices and benchmarks. See the Timeline Analytics User Guide.
Where do I find compliance documents and client material?
Go to "Models", then the "Resources" tab.
